As the Council of the EU prepares to adopt its general approach to the revision of the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), Cosmetics Europe points out the importance of adopting measures that align with both the environmental and competitiveness objectives of the EU.

On 5 December 2023, the SCCS published the preliminary scientific advice on the safety of Titanium dioxide (TiO2) with CAS/EC numbers (13463-67-7/236-675-5, 1317-70-0/215-280-1, 1317-80-2/215-282-2) with a focus on genotoxicity and exposure via the inhalation and oral route in cosmetic products. Cosmetics Europe has signed a letter together with other trade associations warning on the possible disproportional consequences of a ban on environmental claims on products including cosmetics that contain certain substances. On 15 November 2023, France launched a call for evidence to support the preparation of the REACH restriction proposal regarding Octocrylene. The data collected will contribute to the development of the Annex XV restriction dossier being prepared by France. The consultation period is open until 10 January 2024.
