In the light of new data released by the European Commission following a request for access to information, Cosmetics Europe re-affirms that the revised Urban Wastewater Treatment Directive (UWWTD) manifestly overestimates the contribution of cosmetics to the toxic load in urban wastewater by at least 15 times.
On 16 December 2024, the Council adopted the final legal text for a harmonized EU regulation on packaging and packaging waste. The regulation will then enter into force at the beginning of 2025 after publication in the Official Journal of the EU and the subsequent 20 days have passed.

On 19 December 2023, Cosmetics Europe replied to the Council’s position on the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) by continuing to raise major concerns around several issues, from packaging minimisation to Single Market harmonisation and labelling rules.
