Considering the concerns related to potential endocrine-disrupting properties of “Salicylic Acid” the European Commission has asked the Scientific Committee to assess its safety in cosmetic products. On 3 February 2022, this mandate has been accepted by the SCCS and the Committee has nine months to deliver its Opinion.
Based on the SCCS Opinion “SCCS/1613/19” (and its addendum “SCCS/1626/20”) on the safety of aluminium in cosmetic products (including deodorants and antiperspirants, toothpaste, and lipsticks), the European Commission asked the Scientific Committee to assess other types of products, considering also the aggregate exposure to this substance.

The Scientific Committee has published the preliminary scientific advice on Triclocarban and Triclosan as substances with potential endocrine-disrupting properties in cosmetic products. The SCCS adopted this scientific advice at its plenary meeting on 15-16 March 2022.
On 11 February 2022, European Commission notified the World Trade Organization (WTO) of a draft Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 referring to the ban of 12 nanomaterials for which the SCCS has identified a high concern. From 22 April 2022 hair dye and self-tanning products containing Dihydroxyacetone (CAS no 96-26-4) and not complying with the restrictions shall not be made available on the Union market.
