On 19-20 December 2023, the SCCS meeting of the Working Group (WG) on cosmetic ingredients in cosmetic products was held. The points of the previous meeting were agreed upon and published. Below is a summary of the points discussed in this WG meeting.
On 5 December 2023, the SCCS published the preliminary scientific advice on the safety of Titanium dioxide (TiO2) with CAS/EC numbers (13463-67-7/236-675-5, 1317-70-0/215-280-1, 1317-80-2/215-282-2) with a focus on genotoxicity and exposure via the inhalation and oral route in cosmetic products. The deadline for comments was set for 6 February 2024.
The Commission requests the SCCS to carry out a safety assessment on ‘Sodium Myristoyl Sarcosinate’ (CAS No. 30364-51-3/ EC No. 250-151-3) as a coating of Titanium Dioxide (nano) for use as a UV filter in dermally applied cosmetic products. The Committee has nine months to deliver its Opinion.
