The SCCS adopted the final opinion on Kojic Acid at its plenary meeting on 15–16 March 2022. The final opinion was subject to a corrigendum adopted by the SCCS on 10 June 2022. The corrigendum includes changes in the calculation of systemic exposure dose, safety assessment, and conclusion.
The Lithuanian authorities carried out an inspection and found that some bath bombs, which had the appearance of foodstuffs, posed a risk of poisoning to consumers, in particular children, and compromised consumer safety. The Lithuanian authorities ordered these bath bombs to withdraw from the market.
On 21-22 June 2022, the SCCS 2nd plenary meeting was held.
The European Commission has asked the Scientific Committee to re-assess the safety of Titanium dioxide (TiO2) with CAS/EC numbers (13463-67-7/236-675-5, 1317-70-0/215-280-1, 1317-80-2/215-282-2) with a focus on genotoxicity and exposure via the inhalation and oral route in cosmetic products. The European Commission has asked the Scientific Committee to assess the safety of Silver Zinc Zeolite (with INCI name “Ammonium Silver Zinc Aluminium Silicate”) in cosmetic products. The SCCS approved this mandate in the plenary meeting on 21-22 June 2022, and the Committee has nine months to deliver its Opinion.
On 9 June 2022, the SCCS meeting of the Working Group (WG) on nanomaterials in cosmetic products was held.
Although it is easy to identify some Aluminium (AL)-cosmetic ingredients by their INCI name containing the word “Aluminum”, there are many Al-containing ingredients difficult to be identified.
The ministers of environment of Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Luxembourg, Norway, Spain, and Sweden wrote a letter to the European Commission highlighting the need to follow a Union strategy for a non-toxic environment based on the action plan of Chemicals Strategy for Sustainability.
On 14 June 2022, ECHA started the consultation on harmonised classification and labelling (CLH) of the cosmetic ingredient, Tetrahydrofurfuryl methacrylate (CAS no 2455-24-5).
