Below is a summary of what is expected to happen in the near future.
The European Commission has asked the Scientific Committee to assess the safety of children’s exposure to Methyl Salicylate (methyl 2-hydroxybenzoate, CAS/EC No. 119-36-8/204-317-7) as used in cosmetic products. The SCCS approved this mandate by written procedure on 20 December 2022, and the Committee has three months to deliver its Opinion.
On 15 December 2022, the SCCS published the preliminary opinion on Salicylic Acid with CAS no “69-72-7”. The deadline for comments was set for 17 February 2023.
On 21-22 November 2022, the SCCS meeting of the Working Group (WG) on cosmetic ingredients in cosmetic products was held.
On 10 November 2022, Regulation (EU) 2022/2195 was published in the Official Journal of the European Union amending Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 regarding the use of Butylated Hydroxytoluene (BHT), Acid Yellow 3, Homosalate, and HAA299 in cosmetic products and correcting that Regulation as regards the use of Resorcinol in cosmetic products.
