On 28 February 2023, the European Commission submitted a proposal to the World Trade Organization (WTO) for a Regulation of the European Parliament and the Council on packaging and packaging waste. This proposal aimed to address and regulate issues related to packaging and packaging waste within the European Union. It was open for comment until the end of May and the proposed date of adoption is 2025.
