The Scientific Committee has published the preliminary opinion on alpha-arbutin and beta-arbutin after the mandate given by the European Commission to assess their potential to release hydroquinone (HQ). Hydroquinone (CAS No. 123-31-9, EC No. 204-617-8) is prohibited as a cosmetic ingredient. The SCCS adopted this document at its plenary meeting on 15-16 March 2022.
