On 3 May 2023, the Council adopted its position on the proposed directive aimed at improving product labelling, durability, and eliminating misleading claims. The directive, known as the “empowering consumers for the green transition,” received overwhelming approval from the plenary, with 544 votes in favor, 18 against, and 17 abstentions.
The Italian Legislative Decree No. 116/2020, describes the requirements for the labeling of biodegradable and compostable packaging. The Decree has been in force since 1st January 2023.
On 30 November 2022, the European Commission published the proposal for a revision of EU legislation on Packaging and Packaging Waste, as part of the European Green Deal’s Circular Economy Action Plan aiming to prevent packaging waste, boost reuse and refill, and make all packaging recyclable by 2030.
