On 15 December 2023, the SCCS published the preliminary opinion on the safety of Benzophenone-4 in cosmetic products. The deadline for comments was set for 16 February 2024.
On 14-15 September 2023, the SCCS meeting of the Working Group (WG) on cosmetic ingredients in cosmetic products was held. The points of the previous meeting were agreed upon and published. Below is a summary of the points discussed in this WG meeting.
On 17 November 2022, European Commission notified WTO of a draft Omnibus VI Regulation, aiming at modifying Annex II of the EU Cosmetics Regulation 1223/2009. On 22 July 2022, the Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) invited any interested parties, including academia, manufacturers of cosmetic products, producers of the substances concerned, and consumer associations to submit any scientific information relevant to the safety assessment of six cosmetic ingredients with endocrine disrupting properties.
On 7 July 2022, Regulation (EU) 2022/1176 was published in the Official Journal of the European Union amending Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009 regarding the use of Octocrylene (CAS no 6197-30-4) and Benzophenone-3 (CAS no 131-57-7) as UV filters in cosmetic products.
