European Commission presented (through its REACH committee) the first legislative proposal on the limitation of synthetic polymer microparticles in the common market. Taking into account the Annex XV dossier, the opinions of RAC and SEAC, the RAC supplementary opinion, the socio-economic impact, and the availability of alternatives, the Commission considers that there is considerable microplastic pollution arising from the use of synthetic polymer microparticles as substances on their own, or intentionally present in mixtures.
